Tennis

World class tennis at bolton arena.

Bolton Arena is the first purpose built indoor tennis tournament venue in the UK offering the facilities to stage regional, national and international events. It has 8 acrylic indoor tennis courts for public use or one indoor court with two practice courts for tournaments, with a playing surface of the standard at Florida's Flushing Meadow. A gallery viewing area via a bridge overlooks the courts.

Outside there are 6 floodlit American fast dry clay courts whose playing surface rivals those at Roland Garros in Paris.

With a comprehensive programme of tennis courses and coaching, the Arena caters for all ages and abilities from those preparing to serve their first ball, to developing and training players to realise their full competitive potential.

For players aged 11-18 years who wish to combine study, GCSE to A Level, with a first class tennis programme.

Bolton Arena has linked with Rivington & Blackrod High School to offer a flexible education package allowing serious players the opportunity of up to 3 hours of tennis per day and 1 hour of physical conditioning. The school is located only 10 minutes drive from Bolton Arena and has an excellent record of academic achievement.

All players on the scholarship squad will have a personal tutor to monitor their studies and have access to a Specialist Learning Centre. Accommodation with host families is available for players who live too far away to commute daily.

Players of National standard are welcome to apply to join the Scholarship squad.

Full Time Squad

Formed in 2001 the Bolton Arena full time squad has quickly developed into one of the leading centres in the UK for serious players moving into professional tennis. Combining a very competitive tennis environment with a physical conditioning programme that is second to none, the squad includes 6 of Britain's top 20 male players and 11 players with ATP or WTA senior world rankings.

The squad operates 40 weeks a year and is used as a training base for touring professionals and to prepare players for the transition from junior to senior tennis.

A flexible approach allows any player of National standard the opportunity to train on the squad for any set period of time to suit their circumstances.

All on court and physical conditioning work is quantified by the use of heart rate monitors allowing the coaching team to check each players work rate.

Through regular screening and continual monitoring within our state of the art Health and Fitness suite and individual biomechanical analysis in our Sports Education Theatre, we are able to correct any imbalances or mechanical problems.

Every player has a personalised long term development programme to help them reach their potential and to suit their particular style of play.
